My morning chores seemed a little lonely without the meat birds to babysit.
But this first batch of animals to the processor ushers in a quieter season on the farm. A time to re-think, plan, strategize, and dream.
As each project comes to a close we get to look back at how things went and the effort that was invested and ask, “is it worth it?” But before we can honestly answer that question we need to prepare and serve and be nurished by the clean meat that we’ve labored to produce.
I suspect the answer will be a resounding yes.
